A little about me

Hi! I'm Gwen, the founder of Gwen's Tutoring (shocker, I know!).  I set up my little tutoring business following a successful career as a secondary school science teacher. I have completely loved my career so far, but I've quickly come to learn that the education system doesn't work for everyone, and the work-life balance of a teacher didn't fit with my new role of becoming a mam. I decided to take a break from teaching and focus on my newly growing family.  I love to teach, but I also needed to remind myself that we work to live, and not the other way around. Personally, I set up my business for more family time and a chance to make them proud, whilst also focusing on making a difference to pupils on a more individual basis. As teachers, it can be difficult to keep such a focus on one individual and meet the needs of 30 others. Gwen's tutoring allows me to tailor my lessons to better suit individual needs, and to guide each pupil to their maximum potential, on a much more personal level.  

I still have a burning desire to help others, as I did when I began teaching. Therefore this is a place where I feel I can make the biggest difference. Through offering 1:1 sessions I can support or challenge you as necessary. Through offering group sessions, you get the chance to gain confidence in your work without feeling the pressure of a 1:1 session. I pride myself  on making sure that lessons are engaging, be it online or in person. The Covid-19 pandemic has taught me so much in terms of how to structure lessons online, and make the best use of IT so that lessons are interactive and not just a presentation on a screen! 

Wondering whether I'm the right fit for you? I offer a free initial 30 minute "get to know me" session where together, we will work as a team to make a plan going forwards. There is no obligation to book any further sessions, but in this initial session, you'll get the chance to air all your concerns and how you want to progress. All my sessions are focused on getting the best that you are able to achieve. You are the maker of your own future, I am just the catalyst that helps you get there.
